In order to avoid the crowd, we had our Mother's Day dinner tonite at Choon Seng Hng Restaurant with both my parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece and my sister.
I chose to have our dinner here because this restaurant was recommended in TV by Makansutra not long ago. As both SGMale and I are food lovers and we loves to try new food, we came to try their food 2 days after they air the show. However, we aren't lucky that day, the restaurant was very packed. And we waited 1 hour for our recommended crab bee hoon, but luckily it's worth the wait.
We were lucky that the restaurant is not pack today unlike the last time we came. In order to feed 9 hungry tummies, we ordered cereal prawns, sweet and sour red grouper with green apples, fried asparagus with scallops, fried beancurds, coffee pork ribs, chilli crabs and buns.
Another highlight is their corn juice, too bad it's not available today!!! I wanted to recommend it to my mum. Aiya... nvm, there's still "next time"! Giving me an excuse to ask SGMale to treat me and my mum here again.
As for my son, of cos, he was enjoying himself, he ate a lot even though he had one big bowl of "home-cooked porridge" before we set off.
The bill came up to $185 with fully satisfied customers leaving the restaurant with big smile on the face and bloated tummy below. Hahaha....;p

Job Agencies in Singapore
I never know there are so many job agencies in Singapore until I did a search today. SGFemale has been a 'Tai-Tai' for a few month's now and it is high time for her to return to the workforce. ;)
The following URL [http://www.jobs.com.sg/career-jobs.php] kind of link up all job agencies in Singapore and it is a great resource for people seeking employment opportunties out there.
When it comes to interview, it is always good to go prepared for both the interviewer and interviewee. The following URL [http://www.datsi.fi.upm.es/~frosal/docs/25mdq.html] will link you to some of the typical questions asked during job interviews. Hope this will provide some tips to those going for job interviews.

Air-con compressors are faulty
The weather nowadays are getting so hot and humid that it is almost impossible to sleep at night without turning on the air-con. And it so happen that most of our air-con units at home are already not in use due to a faulty air-con compressor. Even the barely working ones are getting from bad to worse, we could hardly feel any cool air coming out from it recently.
Since my brother-in-law works for an air-con repair company, SGFemale arranged for his people to come down and a check was conducted. We were told that both the compressor units need to be replace as well as there could be a possible leakage of cooling gas somewhere and also most of the air-con units need a full-body cleansing and all these amount to almost $1.5K.
Still hesitating whether to get them repaired or to leave them as it is since we are planning to sell the flat soon..probably in 2009...still considering the options..

Dinner at Suki Village
We decided to have dinner at Suki Village since SGFemale needs to collect some brochure for a friend at the place where this Japanese restaurant is located.

There was quite a fair bit of crowd tonight, not sure if business is this good everyday.

Apart from the usual sushi on conveyor belt concept, this restaurant has a unique concept for food ordering. They have all drinks and food names written onto ice-cream sticks and customers just need to pick up the ice-cream stick for the food and drink they want and place them onto the black color container on their table and the waiters or waitresses will pass by and pick up all the ice-cream sticks [orders].
Below are some of the food we ordered for tonight and you will notice most of the dishes are seafood/squid related as they are SGFemale's favourite! ;)

Visit to 'Qian Hu' Fish Farm
We decided to drop by Qian Hu which is located at somewhere Sungei Buloh since we have an hour or so before sending our son to my mum's place. Our son was very happy and amazed by the wide variety of fishes over there. We almost wanted to get him a mini-fish tank and get a few fish for him but decided not to after considering the fact that he is very very mischievous and we are not sure how long the fishes can survive under his 'care'.

There is really a huge varieties of fishes over there and we manage to take snapshots of a few. Depending on the type of species and it's rarity, price of the fishes range from as cheap as $2 to almost $5000.

Northern Pike - $15

Luo Han - $500

Hunchback JinLong fish - Not For Sale

My PlayGround at East Coast
After work, decided to drive down to My PlayGround for dinner as my son is already 90% recovered after taking the medication from Nam Seng.
We had Carl's Junior Burger for dinner and walked around after that to see what other new eateries are available. We have a Portobello Mushroom Burger , 5 pcs Chicken Breast Strips and a Fried Zucchini and a Strawberry Milkshake. I love the milkshake as it reminds me of a very nice milkshake I had very long time ago.

The place is not big and after 15-20 minutes, we finish combing the place and decided to go home to catch up with some TV programs.

Prawning at Bishan Park
After sending our son to the in-law's house, we went Junction 8 for a bit of shopping and lunch. We shopped for about 2 hours before meeting up with a close friend of SGMale. He brought us to the prawning site at Bishan Park, the entire place was jam-packed with people from all walks of life.

As this is our 1st visit to Bishan Park Prawn Fishing Pond we walked around to see see look look. I noted that most of the people prawning there manage to hook up their prawns easily, I decided to try it out for an hour. This will be my 2nd prawning attempt, 1st attempt was at Farmart where I only 'catch' a giant prawn after an hour of prawning.
SGMale happily went to pay up and collect the fishing rod and bait while I 'chop' for a good nice spot to 'prawn'. After we settled down, we began our prawning ceremony. 15 mins passed, still no sight of prawn dangling at our line, whereas the people beside us managed to catch 2 to 3 prawns already. Why? I got a little disappointed, decide to take a break. I passed the rod to SGMale's friend and went toilet break with SGMale. Upon coming out from the toilet, we saw another 2 ponds behind, we went over to take a look, and return to our prawning seat after 10mins.
SGMale's friend told us that not long after we left, he caught a small prawn. I was very happy & impressed upon hearing that cos it is our 1st catch of the day. Feeling encouraged, I took over and try again, I checked the bait frequently and waited patiently. 30mins passed, still no luck! 5mins left before we need to return the rod, I begin to feel very disappointed with only a small prawn after 1 hr. As SGMale is packing up, I decided to refilled the bait and instead of putting a small piece of bait, I hooked up 4 pieces and covered the whole fishing hook this time, telling SGMale's friend that this time I should be able to get a big prawn. Haha..... I lower the hook into the water, and waited..... 2 mins passed, I saw the float moving abit, I told SGMale's friend happily that I finally got something. Yeah!
I pulled the rod up and saw a prawn. Yeah! I was very excited and I ran towards SGMale showing off my last catch. Although it was only a medium prawn, not a big one, but I am contented & happy. I tried to remove the hook but was bitten by the struggling prawn. Wow! It was damn painful! Luckily SGMale's friend helped to remove the hook for me after I cried out loud.
As we are not staying in Bishan, we gave the 2 prawns to SGMale's friend who stays at AMK.

What a wonderful experience!
Prawning track records:
1st time prawning @ Farmart - 1 giant prawn
2nd time prawning @ Bishan Park - 2 prawn (1 small and 1 medium size)
3rd time prawning - ????? - hope to have many many prawns! (at least 20 prawns per hr)
Anyone out there can tip me on how to prawn better?

Visit to Nam Seng
As our son is still down with flu, persistent cough and fever and has not recovered a bit even after a visit to a clinic called Ama Keng at Jurong West. And we decided to bring him to see the doctor at Beauty World Shopping Centre whose clinic is always swarmed with lots and lots of customers.

Got a queue number of 30 even though we called in very early in the morning. After getting the queue #, we decided to hop across the road to one of the eateries for our breakfast. After that we walked over to Courts to shop for about 45minutes. Called in to check on the queue number about 2 hours later and were informed that it is already 20. By the time we arrived back at the clinic, the queue number was already at 28. Just in time! hehehe..;)
Diagnostic result: Son's nostril is slightly infected and has hence caused the cough and fever and non-stop running nose. The doctor mentioned that there are yellow color phlegm inside ( how true, nobody knows)..anyway we were charged almost $40 for the consulation and medication.
Hope the medication can perform another round of wonders yet again on my son's persistent sickness.

Punctured Tyres
Suppose to drive both SGFemale and my son to mother-in-law's place but alas..the moment the car started moving, it became apparent to us that something is wrong with the tyre. Drove another 5-10 meters, case confirmed! One of the car's tyres has punctured.
Parked illegally in front of the rubbish collection chute, we went out of the car to check further and guess what?? We are SO LUCKY, 2 of the tyres punctured, not one!!! SGFemale quickly rang up her brother who stayed nearby and they took a lift from him who is on the way to work, leaving me with a car with 2 punctured tyres for 'breakfast'..;)
First thing first, called office, applied for urgent leave. Next, called Stamford Tyres, no one answers. Went back home to change into causal attire, called Stamford again, this time I called their main line and was informed that they no longer provide towing service. No choice, I called the workshop of my car and was directed to call their assigned workshop repair folk.
Finally, after providing the car location and cellphone number, the long wait begins...I waited for one full hour before the towing vehicle arrive. The driver charge additional $10 for changing one of the tyres since I have a spare one at the boot. After which, the car was towed to a workshop in Bukit Batok and the driver was kind enough to help negotiate for a good price for the replacement of tyres. I was advised to change all 4 tyres as the technician told me that the other 2 surviving tyres will not last any longer.
All in all, I spent $320 for 4 tyres and of course, a peace of mind. Went for a car wash and petrol top-up and was able to spent the rest of the day with SGFemale to do some windows shopping at Suntec City.
Wanted to post some photo of the punctured tyres and somehow the photo got accidentally deleted by the mobile software!!
What a day!

Shopping for new DVD player
After a heavy dinner at Ichiban Japanese restaurant, we went shopping for a DVD player. First, we went to Harvey Norman then to Courts. We compared a few brands & models, checking out the specific functions and of course, not forgetting the price, being the most essential factor of the entire purchase. As SGFemale knows nuts about DVD player, so she leave it to SGMale to make the final decision. After a "long" 45mins of mind-boggling struggle, SGmale finally decided to settle on the Sony DVP-NS608P at Harvey Norman. This DVD player comes with multi disc playback, progressive scan, excellent picture quality of 12bit/108MHZ and easy playback of JPEG/MP3 with contents browser, and it only cost us $99, quite worth it, isn't it?
New DVD player

The full package

Everything out of the box

Now, time to unplug the old Pioneer DVD and replace it with the new Sony DVD player.

Hey SGMale, where are you hiding? Now it's your duty to install it and we shall test it together later. Hehehe!

Dinner at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant
Since both SGMale & SGFemale had the same carving, we decided to settle our dinner over at Ichiban Restaurant, a restaurant that specialises in serving Japanese food including Sushi.
Before the food was attacked

Some common dishes we ordered for tonite
Soft-shell Crab

Gyu-Teridon

Chicken Katsu Tamago Toji

Agedashi Tofu

End state of the food we ordered

Haha..we manage to consume the food in a short span of 15 Minutes..pretty hungry hor..:) and all of these for a bill of $40 bucks..value for money? Guess not..
I am willing to spend this money because I have saved the money I would have 'invested' in 4D last Sunday. Of course! It is better to feed our stomach than to feed the SG Pool's already bloated pockets. ;)

Being a "tai-tai" in Singapore
A typical "tai-tai" should be carefree, going on endless shopping spree everyday. There is no need to worry about household chores, taking care of kids and increasing household expenses. Able to dress up nicely to go shopping, enjoy high tea and buffet dinner with close friends, travelling to every corners of the world etc...
Well, my day-dreaming ailment must be getting worse! As we don't have a maid at home, hence I am the 'maid' and is always the one doing most of the household chores. However I am lucky that my hubby helps me out whenever he has time to spare.
And also, taking care of our 2 years old "super hyper-active monster" son is the toughest challenge and he never fails to drain away every single drop of my energy everyday. But as I see him growing to be more and more cute and adorable every passing day, I felt that all the hardships are all worth the while.
It gets better now ever since we put him at the childcare centre as I only get to see him in the late afternoon. Am enjoying all the free time in the morning and afternoon now and occassionally to recuperate from loss of sleep when he is sick and crying whole night.

Job Interview
One of my guys is leaving and I have asked one of the local job agency to send in some resumes. Saw one resume that looks good and hence the interview today. The interviewee is a Indian national and he turned out to be the candidate that got rejected by us last year. He is currently working for one of the major automobile company and after he described his daily duties and current working experience, my manager and myself decided that we have to reject him once more.
It is realy getting harder and harder to get good people nowadays especially when it is a contract position. All the good folks are probably looking out for good paying permanent positions and will hardly appear for contract job interviews.
So once again, the position remains open and many many more interviews awaits me in the days and weeks to come.

Son is sick again
Our 2 years old son is sick again after spending the weekend over at my parents' place. It was rumoured that my dad fed him with Milo and all sorts of heaty food resulting in him running a high temperature by the time we fetch him back. My poor wife spent the entire night taking care of him while I slept comfortably at the other bedroom as I have got to work the next day. Good thing my wife is currently unemployed and was able to tend to him the entire night.
I sent both of them to my mother-in-law's place in the morning so that both my tired wife and son could be taken care of. I visited them during lunch and was glad that my son's temperature has subsided a bit.
Lesson learnt: Must educate my parent not to let my son indulge himself with heaty food ever again.

Maiden Blog
Probably getting too bored of staying in such a small country like Singapore, my wife and myself decided to register a blog to share most part of our daily happenings and travel experiences with everyone who cares to read this blog. This blog shall also serve as our family diary where we share our ups and downs in life and will be a good place for us to retrospect as we progress through many phases in life...Enjoy! - SGMale
